What Are Immediate-Load Implants?
A dental implant is an artificial titanium root placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a lost tooth. In the conventional protocol, after placing the implant we wait several months for it to integrate into the bone (osseointegration) before fitting the final crown.
Immediate loading consists of placing a fixed provisional prosthesis on the implant within the first 24-72 hours after surgery. This way the patient recovers aesthetics and function almost immediately, while the implant integrates beneath that provisional prosthesis. After a few months, it is replaced with the definitive restoration.
Who Is It Indicated For?
Immediate loading is not for every case: it requires specific conditions that we assess with a prior study. It is usually indicated when:
There is sufficient bone quantity and quality to achieve good initial implant stability.
The implant achieves adequate primary stability at the time of surgery.
The patient's oral and general health is good (healthy gums, no active infections).
The patient does not smoke heavily and has no severe, uncontrolled bruxism.
Common cases: replacing a single tooth in an aesthetic zone, or full-arch rehabilitations using protocols such as All-on-4 / All-on-6, where a fixed prosthesis is anchored on four or six implants.

Is the surgery painful? It is performed under local anaesthesia (and conscious sedation if needed). Recovery is usually more manageable than many patients expect.
Are the first-day teeth the definitive ones? No: they are a fixed provisional prosthesis. The definitive restoration is placed after osseointegration.
Can I have it if I lack bone? Sometimes prior bone regeneration is needed. We assess this with the 3D scan before deciding on the protocol.
How long does the full treatment take? You already leave with fixed provisional teeth the same day; the definitive phase is usually completed within a few months.
